Drawing From Experience
The workshop will take the format of a practical activity that begins with a discursive introduction and a discursive/debate towards the end that reflects on the experiences from the practical part of the session.
Using drawing, participants will be asked to use it as a method to look with, a mediating process that engages your eye with your subject, to enable a hightened level of engagement that will createa much deeper understanding of the things we encounter.
When looking at land and environment there is usually and historically something you want to take from it, through ownership, occupation, extraction or development that means you stand to gain from the encounter. The aim of this heightened engagement enabled via the process of drawing puts you in a position of exchange whereby you and your subject are in conversation as you are actively engaging with it and it with you.
The workshop will include a presentation and introduction to drawing, as well as a disucssion to round off the session. All materials will be provided, but if you would like to bring along any favorite drawing materials or a personal sketchbook you are most welcome.
