Repair Collective (@collectiverepair) are pleased to announce ‘Repair Redux’, an exhibition and expanded public programme opening from March 31st until June 1st 2023.

The exhibition showcases the creative and embodied ways in which repair can be viewed as an on-going process. It will form part of a wider project by Repair Collective that considers repair-informed artistic practices as ways in which to transform contexts, histories and relationships within and beyond the visual arts.

Through film, performance, photography and mixed-media installation , the exhibition aims to offer a timely intervention highlighting the importance of sustaining ourselves and our communities in the face of ongoing economic , ecological and social crises. Repair Redux seeks to address alternative approaches to repair as a theme by extending this through unexpected and provocative means.

Repair collective has a shared cross-disciplinary practice that engages diverse audiences through holistic, embodied and critical approaches. Contributing artists include – Phoebe Wagner, Harry Cross, Kev(In) Audience, Maite de Orbe, Sena Appeah, Sam Stewart, Fikayo Adebajo, Nefeli Kentoni, Alexa Indira Overall, Ratiba Ayadii ft Silent Songstress, Renoir Saulter , Cora Sehgal Cuthburt, Poppy Whitehorn, Passing Comments, Joseph Teh and Sally Barton.

In addition to the exhibition, Repair Redux is presented alongside a film programme curated by exhibiting artist Sam Stewart as well as a community-centred public programme facilitated by Ioana Simeion. Taken together, these activities will engage wide-ranging audiences and bring about exciting new collaborations.

The project is supported by Hypha Studios, a charity which connects artists to project spaces at no cost, as well as Get Living who have provided the temporary exhibiting site. In addition, Repair Collective has been awarded Foundation for Future London’s collaborative commission award 2023.

Artist Celia Hempton and Get Living

Celia Hempton (born 1981, Stroud, UK) is currently included in British Art Show 9, (touring), and My Life in the Metaverse curated by Dr. Omar Kholeif, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi.  A monograph has been published this year by Phillida Reid with accompanying text by Amia Srinivasan.  Her work has been included in many institutional shows, including ICA Boston, Whitechapel Gallery and Serpentine London, as well as Performance Space New York, Gwangju Biennale, Art Night with ICA London, amongst others. It is held in the collections of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellin, Colombia, The British Council and the Government Art Collection, UK.

@hempton’s work explores concepts of voyeurism in the post-digital age. In her paintings, performances and installations, she investigates the blurred lines of comfort and consent; desire and subjugation, visibility and opacity; seeking to deconstruct the ways in which we engage with each other in a rapidly evolving age of hyper-mediation. Formally, Hempton’s paintings, which range in scale from intimate to life-size, acknowledge the tropes of history painting and the often subjugated female body. Hempton’s richly layered paintings directly play with and confront this historical dynamism, producing tactile celebrations of the body, alongside multiple perspectives on how the bodily gaze is constructed.
