We are being fed a rotten story.

The inevitability of AI. The normality of violence. That ecological collapse is inevitable, and nature is only a resource for extraction– culminating in a rigid future decided for us. SPOILED PROPAGANDA brings together an international group of artists, (bio)designers, researchers, and makers who refuse to tune into today’s rotting noise. Instead, they offer some propaganda of their own: fermented and alive.

Working across the increasingly porous boundaries of design, science and technology, the exhibition asks what happens when disciplines, and species, begin seeping into one another. Seafood waste becomes concrete; soil and robots make architectures; water reflects worldviews. Waste becomes feedstock, and organisms become collaborators – decay is welcomed as an opportunity of rebirth.
This is not a vision of a frictionless green utopia, but rather messy, living propositions for how the future is malleable.

Through biodesign, the artists cultivate new imaginal realities built around collaboration between human and more-than-human worlds. They ask us to examine the assumptions we have been consuming unquestioned. To ingest, ferment and digest ideas that might fundamentally alter how we construct so-called “sustainable” futures. Because isn’t sustainability spoiled too? Overused, sanitised and stripped of its capacity to provoke, greenwashing an industry buffer of accountability.

What if we allowed ourselves to craft futures beyond mainstream inevitabilities? Imagining something stranger, more intimate and more alive?
From lab-grown materials and digitally fabricated habitats to objects that actively support ecological regeneration, SPOILED PROPAGANDA collapses the distance between laboratory, studio, building site and ecosystem. It creates a space for scientific research to become cultural experience, and for artistic speculation to contaminate the supposedly objective worlds of technology and design – grafting bio-futurism.

About the Collective / Curators
PHYEIN Collective (Tanvi Khurmi – Rita Morais – Nate Myers) is guided by the ethos of biodesign.

Our practice spans art, biology, digital manufacturing, architecture, and material research, interweaving spirituality, science, and technology. By combining rigor with tenderness, humor with urgency, and science with intuition, our collective creates portals into futures that foster connection and care.
