FREE studio spaces overlooking edinburgh castle

We are looking for a group of self organising artists/ a collective of makers to make use of these studio spaces for free – that overlook Edinburgh Castle. This opportunity is open to makers or artists that can easily access the space, so living in Edinburgh. You should apply representing a group of artists or be a part of collective of self-organising artists. We will not accept applications from individuals.

In return for the free studio spaces, there is a public facing lobby space which you can use as a workshop area for occasional events for the public, limited to groups of 10.

As the 9 studios are so large, we would expect a minimum of 9 artists to be in the collective to use these spaces, but we would prefer more- so 1 or more sharing each of the studios.

In regards to “non messy makers” – we need to ensure that the spaces remain as they were when you started occupation. Sculptors/painters are welcome.
We ask you take responsibility to maintain the studios in the condition you found them in.

As this is an office block with other businesses we are looking for responsible artists that ensure peaceful and quiet enjoyment of the spaces.

PLEASE NOTE

We will prioritise those that cannot normally afford studio or exhibition space, and believe that this opportunity might help them reach the next stage of their career. We are committed to supporting creatives and communities most in need & will prioritise creatives who declare they are struggling – whether financially, mentally or physically.

The space should be used by your group a minimum of three days a week during your awarded period, with specific minimum times agreed in advance. We are committed to supporting the roots of the cultural ecosystem & therefore will take into consideration any hardships or needs applicants declare.

You will be expected to pay a deposit, have your own Public Liability Insurance, buy the necessary fire extinguishers and have any electrical items PAT tested.
