In Grid
17 Amhurst Terrace, London, E8
PV: Thursday, 7th November, 6 – 9pm
Open: Friday 8th November 2024 – Saturday 4th January 2025
In-grid is a trans*feminist collective of artists/educators/technologists working in and around digital infrastructures. They co-create artworks, installations and performances, with the aim of critically engaging with technology.
They are emerging artists in need of space they can’t otherwise afford, the precarious nature of working as freelancers/artists/academics makes this crucial for us. At this stage networking and profile building is vital, they value this opportunity to expand our audience and advance our careers, individually and as a group. Moments to gather in person are rare as they are often separated by geography and circumstance, this would provide a space to come together. Recently they have focused on practice-based research, and this opportunity would let them reframe their research, showcasing their multidisciplinary art that traditional spaces often struggle to host.
The exhibition would consist of sculptural and digital installation works, drawing on their investigations around technological systems, networked infrastructures, political, biological and virtual bodies. They interrogate digital processes while embracing transparency in their application. Works would include generative sound and visuals, kinetic/electronic sculpture, interactive installation, performances and AR/VR experiences. It will have significant interactive elements which challenges distinctions between installation, performance, artist and audience – we hope to frame this in an accessible, dreaming new ways of being in these intersections, inviting in those who might be less comfortable with these formats.
They will also host performances of live generative sound and activations of interactive installations. They will organise a panel discussion with contributions from participating artists within the collective and external respondents in the field: Ninon Ardisson, Jeremie Wenger and Kerry O’Leary. Finally, they will workshops aimed at individuals who are interested in creative technologies but who are inexperienced or intimidated, covering topics like creative coding using p5js and Unity, some workshops would be aimed particularly at young people aged 12-16.
