PULP is a collective of artists from 2023 graduates of “The Drawing Year”, the Royal Drawing School’s postgraduate program. Whorl is their first show as a collective.

For PULP, drawing is a constant becoming, beginning, emerging, recycling, creating. It is a communal practice that slices through the fog of disparate lived experience, a key to sharing their most immediate and intimate impressions. A low rumble, imprinting perceptions, feelings, into paper, onto paper, tearing it apart to create something other, something new, a fibrous landscape to fill with marks. PULP’s varied material and contextual propositions overlap to build a rich network of observation, and textures of thought.

Whorl is both a coiling and an unfurling, a coming together and a pushing apart. In Whorl, PULP aims to represent drawing in a way that reflects its nature. A living, breathing force of convolutions and line; a means of finding symmetry in each other’s practice without letting go of one’s very own way of seeing. Primarily paper-based work & drawing is also the pivot point and catalyst for further material exploration, including sculpture, printmaking, painting and textile work.

The exhibiting artists have worked with and have been featured in some of London’s major galleries and festivals including Christie’s, Alice Black, Glastonbury, Hauser and Wirth, The Royal Drawing School and many more.
