Eugene Macki

about

Eugene Macki (b. 1988) is an artist with a mixed practice that encompasses sculpture, installation, land art, and timebased media. He is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and an Associate Artist at Backlit in Nottingham. Over the years he has branched out from a focus on sculpture to a multi disciplinary practice that now includes film. His main focus is the making of objects and performances in an indoor and an outdoor space. He has exhibited his work in numerous group exhibitions with the Royal Society of Sculptors, The London Group, and as part of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, touring exhibitions to the Salisbury Museum, Trinity Buoy Wharf, and The Gallery at De Montfort University (2019-2020, UK). He has a solo exhibition in 2024 at the Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh, USA.

Residency Project Idea

His intention for this residency at Primrose Hill is to use the time and the space provided for research and to make a series of objects and performances that examine the nature of transformation. He will be exploring five types of transformations: translation, rotation, reflection, dilation and glide reflection. He is also interested in the relationship the work has with its environment, the residency space and location.

Nick Jordan and Amber Henry of Mason & Fifth, alongside Hypha Studios trustees

Mason & Fifth is a community living project who have offered fully furnished flats and studio spaces to eight artists for two months at their site in Primrose Hill. They partnered with Hypha Studios for the selection process. The live-in residencies are offered in exchange for donating a work made during the two months to Mason & Fifth, who will display the work in one of their future buildings and in an exhibition in early 2023.
