Harry Cartwright

about

Harry Cartwright’s work takes cues from the worlds of cinema and advertising to create vibrant and evocative mixed media paintings. These multi-layered works combine painting, photography and printmaking techniques. He is a graduate of City & Guilds of London Art School whose degree show sold out last year, and led to British designer Sir Paul Smith organising a solo show of his work at his store in Borough Market. This year he collaborated with Calvin Klein on their summer CK One fragrance, Summer Daze.

Residency Project Idea

He’s embarking on a new series of new paintings, currently untitled, which explores themes of travel and our connection with imported produce and food. They are currently inspired by images from his holiday archives, and sunnier climbs, all longingly made in the UK. He will continue work on this series, drawing further inspiration from his immediate surroundings and the bounty of fresh produce and the markets of North West London.

Nick Jordan and Amber Henry of Mason & Fifth, alongside Hypha Studios trustees

Mason & Fifth is a community living project who have offered fully furnished flats and studio spaces to eight artists for two months at their site in Primrose Hill. They partnered with Hypha Studios for the selection process. The live-in residencies are offered in exchange for donating a work made during the two months to Mason & Fifth, who will display the work in one of their future buildings and in an exhibition in early 2023.
