Bridging the Gap
curated by Hermione Allsopp & Poppy Whatmore
Hypha Gallery South Bank, 42 Southwark Bridge Rd, London, SE1 9EU
PV: Thursday, 25th June 2026, 6 – 9pm
Open: 26th June – 26th July 2026
‘Bridging the Gap’ is a sculpture exhibition that draws inspiration from its proximity to Southwark Bridge, using the bridge as a metaphor for connection in divided times. Selected artworks will explore themes of linking, division, and repair through the language of making. Artists will employ innovative approaches to structure and materiality- processes which create physical and conceptual links within the exhibition space and its location. The works will respond to the surrounding urban landscape, engaging with the contrasts between sleek city architecture, street-level life, and the river. They will reflect on how connections are formed, fractured, and rebuilt.
Public Programme:
Cross-disciplinary discussion event with Tickbird Rhino as host – a panel discussion with a selected residential sculptor(s), architect, Kevin Gauld and social design expert prof. Jo-Anne Bichard (who has specialised in research on bridges) to explore ideas relating to the exhibition themes and neighbouring community area.
