Open: Friday 8th November 2024- Saturday 4th January 2025

Juliet Wilson (b. 1996) is a Curator and Gallery Manager who has organised and managed a multitude of contemporary art exhibitions in London. Her commitment to her role as a Curator is rooted in the Latin term ‘cura,’ meaning ‘help’ and ‘care.’ She currently serves as a Part-time Gallery Manager at BWG Gallery.

Juliet curates group art exhibitions in London galleries and unconventional spaces, focusing on paintings, drawings, and ceramics. She also organizes public arts events, like a panel talk for Arts Emergency. The upcoming exhibition features artists working in painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, and sculpture. These artists will explore themes inspired by Ruskin, including nature, gothic aesthetics, and craft traditions. Additionally, some artists integrate other practices, such as poetry, teaching, and workshops, to enrich their work and engage with audiences.

The exhibition celebrates John Ruskin, the influential 19th-century English writer, art critic, and social thinker with strong ties to Camberwell, a South London neighborhood that honors his legacy through its landmarks and institutions. Ruskin’s work, bridging art and ethics, profoundly impacted the Arts and Crafts Movement. His forward-thinking ideas on nature, art education, labour-orientated craft and the societal role of writing remain relevant, continuing to inspire artists and activists. The space will host an art exhibition guided by Ruskin’s key ideologies, showcasing works that pay tribute to his core ideas and passions. The exhibition will showcase work by esteemed UK artists who have previously exhibited at venues such as Arusha Gallery, Soho Revue, Blue Shop Gallery, and OHSH Projects.

The exhibition programme will feature a range of public events, including the poetry workshop mentioned earlier and a talk by a representative of John Ruskin’s charity on his life and influence. Additionally, exhibition-focused events will include an opening night, a relaxed brunch with a curatorial tour led by Juliet, and an evening artist panel discussion where artists will explore their practices and their connection to the exhibition’s themes. These events are designed to offer deeper context and foster greater engagement with the works on display.
