“Art of Living” is a presentation of sculptural works by fourteen artists, curated by Poppy Whatmore.
‘Art of Living’ was once a tagline for Aston Martin’s upmarket boutique, with a range stretching far beyond cars. That boutique, typical of its location in Mayfair, closed. It will now house an art exhibition, repurposing ‘Art of Living’ for a new end. Fourteen 3D artists experiment with designed, made and found objects, engaging with materiality, value and identity. Housed within this hollowed out boutique, this naturally continues to ideas of decay and rejuvenation, or memory and loss – themes which are poignant within our aspirational consumerist society.
Selected works directly respond to the luxury brand Aston Martin and its former boutique repurposing their strap line as our title. Within the context of Mayfair, the exhibition engages with the concept of value, the material nature of possessions, and raises questions about our aspirational consumerist society.
