Chris Littlewood & Natalia Mamcarczyk are the next pair of creatives to be selected by Gary Topp, Executive Director @arnolfiniarts to be given a unit at Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Bristol. They will take over the Old Supermarket- unit 17a.

Chris & Natalia’s practice broadly focuses on sound art utilising the surrounding environment in varying ways to create site specific works exhibiting deliberate and accidental interventions from the local community and surroundings. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne and Krakow respectively, the pair reside in South Bristol. Both are sound artists, recordists and audio engineers with a background in community projects, workshops and education settings.

Chris and Natalia will use the space to create an immersive multi channel production space for sound art creation, exhibition and performance. The unit will be used as a spatial audio venue for research alongside public listening and education around immersive sound, exploring a range of formats including binaural, ambisonic and multi channel array systems. Their mission is to make these familiar and digestible for the public in our local community.

Public Programme

Chris and Natalia will be creating regular sound art workshops looking at links between STEM subjects and sound art creation. Through sound walks they will engage the local community in exploring and recording the area, observing seasonal changes and the impact of the environment and encouraging family participation through sound art creation, installation, and performance. These workshops will culminate in listening sessions and exhibitions featuring sound works created during the workshops alongside bespoke sound works from themselves and other collaborators.

Gary Topp Executive Director of the Arnolfini, Bristol

Gary Topp has been the Arnolfini s Executive Director since February 2019 taking the organisation through a period significant change and progress to re-establish Arnolfini as a leading UK centre for contemporary arts in a partnership with University of the West of England. He has been chief executive of a range of cultural organisations across the UK and in Australia over a 30- year career including Yorkshire Culture, Greening Australia and Culture Central. Gary began his career as a visual arts curator and museums manager in Dorset and Teesside. He has extensive leadership experience working within the context of social and economic change and placemaking. He is Chair of Trustees at the Leach Pottery, an FRSA and holds a number of other board and advisory roles.
